Last year was the first time I visited Chelsea Flower Show, the day after we wandered around Chelsea in Bloom, but didn't have much time so we didn't see that many. There was one in particular I wanted to see that I dragged my mum along to.
I never thought about going early to see the mechanics, that's genius! I found the behind the scenes almost more fascinating than the finished product.
Your post is really making me wish I was going again this year! I loved that you spent so much time doing Chelsea in Bloom, if I went back I'd do the same. Are you going this year?
I agree, to cover installations with flowers is the relatively easy part. How to make the structure is the more difficult part. With 100 installations it takes a while to get around to them all. Unfortunately we’ve never seen them all.
We hope to get Europe next month and if we do we’ll head to both Chelsea Flower Show and Chelsea in Bloom.
If you get a chance to go to Festival Flora in October in Cordoba, they allow the public to watch the installations being constructed for the 4 days prior. I’d find that fascinating!
Yes, yes, yes! The mechanics and the structure is the most difficult part. And it's often the hardest bit to research because you always just see the end product.
I hope you make it to Chelsea. I'll make an effort to go next year, you've really inspired me with seeing it as a research project whilst they set up, I think I'd find it invaluable.
Oooh, that sounds amazing. I'll add that to my list!

It is absolutely gorgeous the way they have made so many flower decorations.
It’s a sight to behold!
